Up to the late half of 1997 R.J.Washington was still decorating pots thrown in the 1980’s, and redecorated those that dissatisfied him. His aim of unifying pot and decoration were unchanged but the new decorations exploited all that he had learned through experiment in the intervening period.
Ah, make the most of what we yet may spend
before we too into dust descend
Dust into Dust, and under Dust, to lie,
Sans wine, sans Song, sans Singer, and
And, strange to tell among that Earthen lot
Some could articulate, while other not:
And suddenly only more impatient cried-
“Who is the Potter, pray, and who the Pot?”
Ah, fill the Cup:- what boots it to repeat
How time is slipping under-neath our Feet:
Unborn To-morrow and dead Yesterday,
Why Fret about them if To-day be sweet!
